Doing Theology as a Follower of Christ

paulinprison

This summer we are exploring Christian theology as a community. Our class, which meets Sunday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 will seek to drink deep of the great fountain of theological reflection of the past 2000 years. In addition we will also be seeking to engage in our own theological reflection based on contemporary questions or challenges to the Christian faith.

This page is dedicated to this class. We want this place to be an on-line home to dialogue for those who have questions about the readings or lectures. An on-line environment is a less than optional environment but it is still a format for us to do theology as a community. If you are going to comment and or post, please be mindful of the following rules:

  1. No question is out of bounds. All of life is to be brought under the Lordship of Jesus which means that all of our lives and situations are valid places for theological reflection. Please feel free to ask what is on your heart or simply to post a thought that you would like help in developing.
  2. Understanding, humility, and charity are key. Don’t assume you fully understand what someone is saying. If you have a question about something someone said it is better to ask a question than to make an accusation. Clarifying questions are welcomed and enjoyed.
  3. Remember that some things may simply not be resolved. There is plenty of room in the Church of Jesus for Christians to disagree on things. In addition there is plenty of room in our church for people to disagree! If you sense that you are having a discussion that will not be resolved or is escalating into an argument it is better to simply agree to disagree than to divide. As a challenge, try letting someone else have the last word!

All that said, let’s use this format to continue our class discussions and engage in new ones. There is plenty within the faith for us to explore.
